What Gen Z's Cruise Boom Means for 2026 Travel Spending — Plus the Best Cruise Deals of the Summer

You may be surprised by who joins you on that next cruise. There’s a good chance plenty of younger passengers will be on the ship, thanks in part to increased demand from Gen Z travelers who see cruise videos all over social media and ads offering great deals.
According to Cruise Lines International Association, millennials (22%) and Gen Z (14%) now make up about 35% of all cruise passengers. “Royal Caribbean saw a jump of about 20% in Gen Z bookings last year alone and roughly eight out of 10 young cruisers who’ve already sailed said they wanted to do it again,” said Jasmine Charbonier, travel expert behind Your Tampa Bestie.
Read on to see what the Gen Z cruise boom means for travel spending in 2026 and where you can find some of the best cruise deals for this summer.

The Appeal of Cruising for Younger Travelers
“Cruising used to feel like a retiree thing,” Charbonier said. “I’ve seen this shift with my own audience, younger followers keep asking me about cruise deals instead of flight deals, which is a real change from a few years back.”
Charbonier added that Gen Z tends to treat travel as a non-negotiable expense, even when money feels tight. She said they’d rather cut back on shopping than skip a trip.
“Cruises fit that mindset well because flights, food and entertainment all bundle into one price, which makes budgeting simple for a generation raised on subscription apps and fixed monthly costs,” she said. “I personally think this is smart money management dressed up as wanderlust and cruise lines know it. That’s why so many ships now have rock climbing walls, nightclubs and Instagram-worthy pools instead of just shuffleboard courts.”
Per Taylor Kovar, certified financial planner (CFP) and co-founder of UseKlear.com, a lot of the younger interest probably comes down to how cruises are priced.
“You book it and most of what you're going to spend is already settled: food, the room and getting around,” he explained. “There aren't many surprises. For someone trying to be careful with money but still wanting a real vacation, that's pretty appealing.”
The Cruise Deals To Check Out This Summer
“Many cruise deals you find expire within a few weeks, so if a sailing date works for you, lock it in rather than waiting for something better,” said Nick Bonatsakis, founder of CruiseKick. “And if your calendar is flexible, last-minute fares on shorter cruises can shave another $125 to $400 off the price depending on the cabin you pick.”
If you’re looking for good cruise deals, Charbonier said right now is a solid window to book. Below are some of her top picks.
Celebrity Cruises is running one of its biggest sales, up to 75% off a second guest plus a few hundred dollars in onboard credit on select sailings.
Virgin Voyages has a deal running through the end of July with 70% off your second sailor and a free balcony upgrade.
For bigger families or groups, CruisesOnly is stacking 75% off second guests with up to $600 in extra savings per stateroom on longer sailings.
“My advice, compare the total cost including gratuities and Wi-Fi before you book,” she added. “The sticker price rarely shows the full picture.”
