In either case, it's likely to be a condo or co-op with monthly fees that could easily top $1,500. Head out to Queens or Far Rockaway for three-bedroom single-family homes affordable on a first-time buyer's budget. A $423,000 budget can buy a three-bedroom house in the Bronx.
Bangor, Maine
Bangor is a small market, but if you're looking for a home that could double as a bed and breakfast, this might be the place to buy.
