Want $100 More a Week? These 4 Side Gigs Actually Deliver

An extra $100 a week might not sound life-changing -- or even go as far as it used to -- but when you do the math, it's $5,200 a year. All in, that's a solid emergency fund, a chunk of debt wiped out or a vacation you might actually be able to afford.
The best part is that you don't need a special degree or a ton of free time to make it happen. Here are four simple side gigs that can get you there in just a few hours a week.

Online Tutoring
Mean hourly wage: $23.36
Hours per week to earn $100: 4-5
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average tutor makes $23.36 an hour. The more accurate median is a lower, but still a respectable $19.03.
That means, based on the average hourly pay, five one-hour tutoring sessions per week would put you over the $100 target. There are many avenues for people from a wide variety of backgrounds to earn extra income by sharing their knowledge. For example, you can work with elementary, high school and college students remotely to help them with school work or prep for exams.
Dog Walking
Average hourly wage: $17.20
Hours per week to earn $100: 6
ZipRecruiter reports that the average dog walker earns about $17 an hour. However, that fee can easily be raised by walking more than one dog at a time.
To get started, you can join Wag!, Rover or another platform that connects walkers with pet owners in need. You can also parlay your animal-loving enterprise into pet-sitting to double up your earnings in the long term.
Rideshare or Delivery Driver
Average hourly wage: $20
Hours per week to earn $100: 5
Putting your car to work can earn you roughly the same as walking dogs or tutoring. Indeed reports that Uber drivers earn an average of roughly $20 an hour, and Glassdoor data shows the median Instacart driver makes $19 an hour.
So here, too, the job requires just five hours or so per week to earn an extra $100.
Babysitting
Average hourly wage: $23
Hours per week to earn $100: 4-5
Good babysitters might get to $100 per week faster than they could with the previous three side hustles on the list. According to Sittercity, the national average hourly rate can range from $23 to $35, which would quickly put you over the financial finish line. That same platform pairs sitters with parents, as does UrbanSitter, which also accommodates dog sitters and tutors.
