1. Answer Questions on JustAnswer
If you have expertise in particular subjects, you can get paid to answer queries on JustAnswer. People post questions in a litany of subjects, including law, medicine, electric systems, technology, home improvement and more.
“Many people log on at night or on the weekends to supplement a full-time job,” said Aimee Grove of Smitten Communications. “Experts on the platform make an average of $2,000-$7,000 per month, depending on how much time they put in and the category.”
2. Develop Websites
If you have web development skills, you can look for contract work to do in addition to your full-time job.
“I have hired independent contractors to build my website, do the design and run the operations,” said Jason Long, the CEO of SupportMy.Website. “[I pay] anything from $25 an hour to $150 an hour.”
3. Start Pet-Sitting
“Pets require special care during December, especially when their human family is away,” Long said.
That caretaker could be you, if playing with puppies and cuddling kitties sounds like your idea of a dream job. Start posting on social media or offer to pet sit for friends and neighbors going out of town. Long said the average dog walking gig pays between $20 and $35 per visit.
4. Work at Holiday Events
Pumpkin patches, haunted houses and holiday fairs all need workers. Look into your local events to see if they’re hiring for customer service or logistics positions.
“I [worked] events (harvest festivals, wine festivals, etc.) from September to February after my shifts at the winery were reduced,” said Gregor Emmian, head of digital marketing at Trade Rise. “During this time of year, I recommend searching Craigslist for ads from sellers who could use some extra hands.”
5. Rake Leaves
The job you had as a teenager might just be what you need to start doing again to make that extra cash you’re looking for.
“Raking leaves is one of the easiest seasonal side gigs for making extra holiday money,” said Gene Caballero, cofounder of GreenPal. “All you need is a rake, a tarp or garbage bags, and some elbow grease.”
Caballero said you can make between $50 and $150 per cleanup on average.
6. Sell Your Items
Selling through sites like Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark and OfferUp can net you a lot of cash, and you don’t have to take on extra work. Plus, you can get good use out of items you’ve been meaning to get rid of, or cash in something valuable.
“You can get a head start on a possible New Year's resolution by decluttering your closet,” said Greg McRoberts, founder and CMO of Verde Fulfillment USA.
