Dependable cars don't have to cost a fortune. If you're looking for a new ride you can count on, there's plenty of options that won't break the bank.

In November 2025, the average new car buyer in the U.S. paid $49,814, according to Kelley Blue Book (KBB). Therefore, if you're trying to stick to a budget, a quality used vehicle could be your best option.

Ryan Salata, marketing director at Specialty Auto Parts USA Inc., shared six reliable cars you can get used for less than $30,000. Keep reading to find your best fit.

  • Average price of 2021 Honda Civic: $17,500-$22,400, according to KBB

Used Honda Civics -- model years 2020-2022 -- typically require minimal maintenance until they reach about triple-digit mileage, Salata said. The car's 1.5-turbo engine is tried and tested, it has cheap replacement components and spare parts are readily available.

Overall, he said it's an excellent car with high resale value and a low repair bill.

  • Average price of 2021 Toyota Corolla: $14,300-$19,050, according to KBB

Basic and reliable, Toyota Corollas from model years 2020-2022 are perfect for those who want an easy car, Salata said. Assuming it has standard oil changes and break pad changes, most drivers are able to hit 200,000 in this trusty sedan.

  • Average price of 2021 Mazda3: $12,950-$21,700, according to KBB

A Mazda3 is more fun to drive than a Honda or Toyota, but just as dependable, Salata said. The 2.5-liter turbo engine is good, but higher than average depreciation should make model years 2020-2022 a decent purchase in this price point, since Mazda reliability has been on the rise.

  • Average price of 2021 Honda CR-V: $21,200-$24,700, according to KBB

A Honda CR-V -- model years 2019-2021 -- is a just-right SUV with a great lifespan, Salata said. The 1.5-liter turbo engine is long-lasting and repairs are cheaper than its competition.

"It doesn't have that many unhappy owners," he said.

  • Average price of 2021 Subaru Crosstrek: $17,300-$23,200, according to KBB

If you're looking for an all-wheel drive crossover in this price point, a Subaru Crosstrek -- model years 2020-2021 -- could be a good fit, Salata said. It's made with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter internal combustion engine, meaning you won't have to deal with a turbocharger.

Do note, you will need to change the CVT transmission fluid every 30,000 miles, which costs about $200, he said.

"[It] is a small price to pay, instead of replacing the entire transmission," he said.

  • Average price of 2021 Hyundai Elantra: $13,600-$16,950, according to KBB

A major bonus, you can get an optional 10-year powertrain warranty with a Hyundai Elantra, Salata said. Increased quality of this vehicle makes it a reliable option for a larger ride in this price point -- specifically, model years 2021-2023.
