You don’t have to stretch out of your budget to get a car with high horsepower and a fun driving experience. These were his picks.
BMW Convertible
DeMuro started his list with the BMW Convertible and specifically focused on the E46 M3, E93 M3 and F83 M4 models. It has around 333 horsepower with a price range of $15,000 to $30,000, according to Classic.com.
Although it’s not a coupe, that didn’t deter DeMuro. He said the distinction matters if you are on a race track, but for the highway and side roads, it doesn’t make much of a difference if you have a convertible or a coupe.
DeMuro mentioned that the BMW Convertible is the everyday vehicle that even the police drive. It’s not an elite sports car, but it can provide a fun driving experience.
4th-Gen Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird
DeMuro brought up this retro car next and used alphabetical order when presenting his picks to avoid naming any favorites. He said that it is a rumbly sports car that has its own look compared to previous generations. The fourth gen's unique style can turn it into an eye catcher, and its horsepower ranges from 320 to 330. The Pontiac Firebird has an average selling price of $23,396, according to Classic.com. The fourth-gen Chevy Camaro is a little cheaper on Classic.com, with an average price of $20,652.
The quality of the car is not unbelievably high. Fun driving experience. Retro car. Not many people show up with this type of car, which makes them eye-catching. The fourth gen has its own look and isn’t trying to look like something else. Fun, rumbly sports car
Jaguar F-Type
The Jaguar F-Type manual version drives well and has a beautiful design. DeMuro mentioned that it can handle better than most cars due to its smaller and tighter design. He called it a reliable car while saying you can get it for around $30,000. The base V6 engine has 340 horsepower, while the supercharged V6/V8 models have around 380-575 horsepower.
Nissan 350Z
The Nissan 350Z isn’t an overlooked model. DeMuro said car enthusiasts know about it, but they are cheap based on what they offer. It has 287-306 horsepower depending on the year and trim, with the price ranging from $9,000 to $15,000. He called it a stable and fun drive while highlighting convertibles if you are looking for a Nissan 350Z with fewer modifications.
Pontiac Solstice GXP
DeMuro views the Pontiac Solstice GXP as an unusual car with good style and plenty of power. He also mentioned that they get a bad rap because they are GM cars, even though they are legitimately fast vehicles. This model has 260 horsepower for a turbo engine and 175 horsepower for non-turbo base models. The price ranges from $8,000 to $13,000.
Toyota MR2 Spider
The MR2 Spider is a third-generation vehicle that gets overlooked because the previous two generations are well-known. People don’t think about this vehicle as much, and that has translated into a price range of $8,000 to $15,000. DeMuro said it is a lighter, mid-engine alternative to the Miata with excellent weight distribution and good driving. It has 138 horsepower, according to Hotcars.com.
