Sam’s Club and Costco are typically neck and neck when it comes to affordable prices on bulk groceries. Take a closer look at certain products, however, and you’ll realize it’s possible to save a few extra dollars shopping at Sam’s Club.

From cheese to coffee, Sam’s Club has the better value on these eight items.

  • Price: $47.98

Both warehouse clubs carry Starbucks Pike Place K-cups, but Sam’s Club keeps their 72-count boxes under $50. At Costco, shoppers pay close to $55 for the same product.

Just Bare chicken breast bites may come in a 4-pound bag at Costco (compared to 3 pounds at Sam’s), but they also cost nearly $9 more. If you’re shopping for a smaller household or on a tight budget this month, grabbing the smaller bag at Sam’s makes more financial sense.

Which warehouse has it cheaper? Sam’s Club by a mile. The price is under $10 while the Kirkland brand is closer to $15.

Kraft singles are regularly on sale at Sam’s Club and Costco, so depending when you shop it’s possible to get it cheaper at Costco instead of Sam’s — and vice versa. 

At their retail prices though, the American cheese lunchtime staple hovers under $10 at Sam’s.

Need to stock up on peanut butter? Go for the Member’s Mark brand instead of Kirkland Signature. You’ll get two jars, 40 ounces of peanut butter compared to Costco’s 28 ounces and save nearly $4.

  • Price: $5.58

While it’s true that shoppers get slightly fewer pre-portioned hummus singles from the Member’s Mark brand compared to Kirkland Signature, it’s still a better overall value. 

The 20-count packs from Kirkland come out to spending 45 cents per cup while shoppers pay 35 cents per hummus cup at Sam’s. That’s a 10-cent difference for every portion.

Parents of kiddos who love fruit will tell you every dollar saved when shopping for fresh fruit is worth it. 

You can buy 2 pounds worth of strawberries at both warehouse clubs, but Sam’s offers up close to $2 in savings.
