Fashion may be cyclical, but the price tag on designer apparel isn’t. With the release of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" in theaters, it’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the original — "The Devil Wears Prada" — debuted. It’s even harder to ignore how much prices have risen in just two decades.

According to New York Magazine’s online publication The Cut, it’s not just the clothes that have jumped in cost in the last 20 years, but many everyday items have strutted down the runway to the tune of this inflation index. For example, looking at the style in Vogue in 2006 would have cost your $3.99 an issue, whereas today it will run you $10.

So if you don’t want to lose the shirt off your back every time you try to dress like Meryl Streep’s Miranda or Anne Hathaway’s Andy, then it’s best to do some window shopping of the trends they promote, then find comparable fashion substitutes at a discount a few avenues over.

Here are five looks from “The Devil Wears Prada 2” in 2026 you can find at “The Devil Wears Prada” in 2006 prices.

Yowzer – at these price tags, you’ll want to wear them every day, but these Chanel boots are definitely not made for walking. If you want the look for less, you can try on the boots from DSW, which come in more than $4,000 less.

The character of Miranda Priestley was never likely to carry around an inexpensive bag, but if you spent over a grand in 2006 or over $5,000 today, what would you even put in it? Certainly not money. Especially not the thousands you just surprisingly saved by shopping at Old Navy.

If you don’t want to take the wrong step with your finances, then maybe you should opt for dupe Choo shoes. Though the Jimmy Choo slingbacks went up the least in price compared to other items on this list, even in 2006, they were still over $600. In today’s economy, if you don’t go with something like the cheaper, yet still quality, version from Quince, you might become the woman who lived in her shoe.

Chanel is always in season, and the designer brand’s jacket of the season never fails to impress fashionistas. However, if you don’t have over $6,000 today to spend on this little number, then it’s good to know you can get the same quality and feel for three figures, not four.

You rarely see a dip in the market like Marc Jacobs has seen for his designer bags. Though by no means cheap, these bags are much more approachable in price than they were two decades ago. You can go to the brand’s site and get a similar bag for less than half, or go and find the original by thrifting or visiting resellers for less than one-third.
