Gen Zers Prefer Shopping In-Store – 4 of the Best Deals You Can Only Find Offline

A shopping trip may be a perfect plan for your favorite Gen Zer. Research from Snapchat and Portas showed that more than half of Gen Z shoppers (51%) would rather go in-store for the experience than buy something instantly on the internet.
“Everyone assumed Gen Z would go fully digital and skip physical stores,” said Andrew Lokenauth, founder of the blog Fluent in Finance. “However, screen fatigue is real. After years of everything being digital, Gen Z wants to touch, see and experience products before buying.”

Lokenauth added that nearly half of Gen Z frequent off-price retailers like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Kohl's for branded pieces at lower prices. In-store drops, limited runs, and floor-only clearance pricing create urgency that an online cart just can't match, he said.
“The bigger insight is that Gen Z uses TikTok and Instagram to build a mental wish list, then heads in-store to pull the trigger,” he said. “Brands that win with Gen Z right now are offering exclusive in-store pricing, loyalty perks that activate in person and limited merchandise that never hits the website. The ones still betting on digital-only are losing ground fast.”

Clearance Section Special Pricing
“The clearance section at clothing stores is unbeatable compared to online options,” noted Melanie Musson, a retail finance expert with Quote.com. “There isn’t enough inventory for most retailers to list the last articles of clothing from last season online. But when you go to the store, you can find those odds and ends for less than what they’d be priced at at a thrift store.”
School and Office Supplies
According to Musson, physical stores often have slightly better deals than online retailers. When it’s back-to-school season, the door buster sales at stores can be incredible. For instance, Musson noted you’ll find Crayola crayons or markers for as low as $1 or $2 a box.
Grocery Savings
It’s convenient to have groceries delivered, but you’ll save money when you walk the aisles, compare price per unit or per ounce and snag deals, Musson added.
“It’s a different experience to shop in person than to shop online,” she said. “Plus, when it comes to fruits and vegetables, shopping in person allows you to pick high-quality items.”
Restaurant Perks
You may enjoy the convenience of picking up food or having it delivered, but that can sometimes cost you more than expected. There are plenty of chain and local restaurants that offer in-store only deals on food, beverages and gift cards.
For families searching for ways to save money while still eating out, finding in-store deals can be an even greater win. While you may find some of these family bundles talked about on restaurant websites, better deals may be found when you visit and eat inside.
