Even if you prefer to buy food and gas somewhere other than Costco, a membership to the warehouse club could still be worth it. That’s because Costco -- with its $65 Gold Star Membership or $130 Executive Membership -- has a great variety of everyday household products that not only last a long time, but are often very well priced for what you get.

If you are a Costco member, make sure you snag these top household items in bulk every time you shop there.

  • Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Detergent Tabs: $17.99 for 100-count pack (currently $5 off)

“Buying dishwasher detergent pods in bulk is a great way to save money,” said Samantha Landau, consumer expert at TopCashback USA. “For example, Costco is offering a 100-count of the Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Detergent Tabs for only $17.99, while Target is offering an 84-count of this same item for $22.49.”

And if the price isn’t enough of an incentive, the higher quantity might be. After all, you won’t have to go back to the store as often to buy more.

“Plus, using your dishwasher over hand washing dishes can help you save money on water utility bills, making this a great investment,” added Landau.

  • Oral-B CrossAction Advanced Soft Bristle Toothbrush: $11.99 for an 8-pack (currently $4 off)

You should replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Depending on your household size, this could mean frequent trips to the store to buy new toothbrushes.

Avoid the hassle and save money by flashing that membership card and buying toothbrushes in bulk at Costco.

“Toothbrushes don’t expire, and everyone needs them, so they’re a great option to buy in bulk at Costco,” said Landau. “Having extra toothbrushes in the home can ensure all members of your household maintain their dental hygiene throughout the year.”

Landau suggested the eight-pack of Oral-B CrossAction Advanced Soft Bristle Toothbrushes at Costco. It’s regular price is $15.99, but at Walmart, you can get the same product for $24.99.

“Costco is nearly half the price at the moment, making it a great choice to stock up for the year,” Landau said.

  • Kirkland Signature Moisture Shampoo: $11.99 for 33.8 fluid ounces

Costco sells an array of hair products, including shampoos and conditioners, at reasonable prices. Not only that, but these items can last a long time when stored properly, meaning you can stock up without having to worry about expiration dates.

“The Pantene Multi-Tasker 10 Shampoo, which can strengthen, smooth and protect your hair, only costs $15.99 for 38.2 fluid ounces — $0.42 per fluid ounce — at Costco," said Sophia Phillips, lifestyle expert at CouponBirds. . “But the same shampoo is priced at $25.05 — $0.66 per fluid ounce — on Amazon.”

This is 57% more expensive than what you’d get at Costco.

And if you’re not particular about brands, you can pick up a 33.8 fluid ounce container of Kirkland Signature Moisture Shampoo for around $11.99 — which is 17% cheaper than Pantene.

  • Kirkland Signature Bath Tissue: $24.99 for 30 rolls

Toilet paper is another essential household item that’s worth buying in bulk. Not only does it last a long time, but buying it in larger quantities can lower how much you’re actually spending on each roll.

“Depending on the size of your household, this can save you from purchasing toilet paper on a regular basis, and you can stick to your grocery list instead, each week,” said Landau. “In general, buying regularly-used items in bulk, like toilet paper, will help you save both time and money in the long run.”

  • 40-count Duracell Coppertop Alkaline AAA Batteries: $20.99 for 40-count pack

If you’ve ever found yourself searching for batteries only to come up with nothing, it might be time to stock up at Costco. Phillips suggested the 40-count Duracell Coppertop Alkaline AAA Batteries in particular. They cost $20.99, or $0.52 each.

“At Walmart, the same product [in a] 24-count is charged at $21.49 — $0.89 [each] — 70% higher than Costco,” she said.
