If you're looking for an SUV that offers both affordability and longevity, you're in luck. A few models have earned a reputation for lasting well beyond 200,000 miles with proper maintenance, according to experts. Here are the top four.
Honda CR-V
Starting price: $30,920
The Honda CR-V is a practical SUV that offers exceptional fuel economy, a smooth ride and a luxurious interior at an affordable price. Car salesman Joshua McDonald highly recommended the CR-V, raving about its reliability in a February 2026 YouTube video, but shared that only certain models can last long-term.
McDonald explained that the CR-V has a 1.5-liter engine that gets 190 horsepower and said it's an "excellent motor that will definitely last you a long time."
But the hybrid is a different story.
“Anything that doesn't say hybrid will absolutely last you over 200,000 miles with this turbocharged engine,” he said. “If you have the hybrid motor, you get some more power, but you're going to have some reliability issues because you can see we have some more stuff going on in the hybrid.”
Toyota RAV4
Starting price: $31,900
The Toyota RAV4 is one of the best-selling SUVs because it combines reliability, good fuel efficiency, a comfortable ride, and a spacious interior. The latest redesign offers plenty of new tech features and a sleek design while maintaining its reputation for durability, McDonald said.
“There's lots of technology that you can get as well, but this motor will absolutely last you 200,000 miles or more, even with the hybrid," he noted.
Toyota Grand Highlander
Starting price: $41,860
The Toyota Grand Highlander is a large midsize family-friendly SUV that comfortably seats up to eight adults, offers good gas mileage and has extra cargo space. It’s also built to last, according to McDonald. “This vehicle will absolutely last you 200,000 miles if you take care of that gas powertrain,” he said.
The Highlander also has a hybrid option, but McDonald said the battery won’t last as long and to consider that when shopping around.
Honda Pilot
Starting price: $42,395
The Honda Pilot is an appealing SUV for shoppers looking for massive interior space, advanced features and a comfortable ride. According to iSeeCars, the Pilot ranks fourth among the most reliable three-row SUVs and has a 31.4% chance of reaching 200,000 miles, which Dave Erickson, founder of Everyman Driver, said is important to know.
"You're not just betting on a good current model," he said in a May 2026 YouTube video. "You're betting on a nameplate that has already proven it can survive the long grind of family use, road trips, school runs, cargo duty, and everyday abuse without turning into a constant headache."
The cheapest SUV isn't the one with the lowest sticker price -- it's the one that can last without draining your bank account. Buying an SUV that can go up to 200,000 miles or more is one of the smartest ways to reduce car troubles while not breaking your budget.
