4 Big Purchases To Consider Before 2026 Ends (That May Save You $5K)

What should you buy now that will actually be cheaper than buying it come 2027?

There can be some really good deals to get before the end of the year, especially with the holidays coming up. And it's not just trendy must-haves spotted on TikTok -- it can even be purchases that could help your finances.

Here are the items experts said to get in 2026 so you don’t pay too much for it after the first of the year.

If there is something you can purchase now that can make a difference in how much you pay in taxes, Melanie Musson, a finance expert with Quote.com, said to make the move.

“A new work truck, office equipment and more may be best bought before the new year so you can get the tax write-off and use the purchase to improve your business," Musson noted.

If there are medical procedures you’ve been putting off, you might want to get them done now. You can deduct medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). For example, if you make $55,000 in a year, and you have $10,000 in medical expenses, you can deduct $5,875 of those expenses.

If you’re thinking of buying a new car, now is the time to do it.

“The 2027 models are making their way onto the dealer lots, and new models are almost always more expensive than the previous model year,” Musson pointed out. “End-of-year sales goals also make it easier for consumers to negotiate good deals.”

According to Edmunds, a new 2026 Subaru Outback has the average price of $27,180, whereas a new 2027 model is $32,633. Both are new cars, but one costs $5,000 more.

Musson said Black Friday and Cyber Monday can offer significant savings for hot electronic items. She noted, “These deals will expire by January, so you’re likely to get the best deals at the end of the year.”

WalletHub reported that Best Buy offered a 29% discount on average last year. Target also offered 29% while Amazon offered a 30% discount on average.

Be on the lookout for sales on Apple items, TVs and game systems.

Sure, it might not be the ideal time to furnish your patio, but the prices are probably the best they’re going to be.

Mike Fretto, the owner of Neighbor, an outdoor furniture company, highlighted potentially rising tariffs and gas prices as a reason why it’s going to be cheaper to buy your furniture now.

“Outdoor furniture is already expensive, and could cost more. Buying now takes that question out of the equation," Fretto shared.
