We’re celebrating Black History Month at MoneyLion by interviewing some of our African American teammates. We spoke with Nesha R., a Digital Project Manager in our New York office, about what this month means to her. Here’s what she had to say:
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in New York City – specifically the Bronx. My neighborhood was a mostly African American and Hispanic community, but I’ve always been exposed to a melting pot of cultures — especially in high school, where there was no “majority.”
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by so many powerful African American women, but to name a few: Michelle Obama, Angela Davis, Shirley Chisholm, and so many more!
What do you think about when you hear “Black History Month?”
When I hear the words Black History Month, I think about the strides made in the black community starting with the civil rights movement, and how much work still needs to be done.
What is your role at MoneyLion?
I am a Digital Film Project Manager. I coordinate internal resources to make sure all projects are executed flawlessly.
What do you like best about working at MoneyLion?
The thing I like best about working at MoneyLion is that there’s never a dull moment and always more work to be done!
What’s your favorite feature in the MoneyLion app?
I really enjoy the daily personalized tip cards, which make me feel a little more financially savvy, and the daily $1 cashback incentive for logging in each day.* I love being rewarded for investing in myself.
What advice do you have for others in your community pursuing their goals?
Right now my favorite quote to live by is from Keesha Jean-Baptiste “It’s about small, intentional, tightly choreographed actions that move you forward every day.”
